Welcome To Super Big Ball Table Tennis!

Yes, you have arrived!!! This is the website where it all begins in the United States of America for the great sport of 44mm Table Tennis. We call it the Super Big Ball Table Tennis Association. We are excited that you have found this website and we ask you to go ahead and bookmark it, or save this website, so you can come back and visit as we add content and exciting new information about this great sport that has landed in the USA!!!

So-Just What is 44mm?

As most of you probably know, conventional Table Tennis is played with a 40 mm ball and a net structure that is 15.25 cm high. This is a really fast game and is subject to great spin and quick rallies. In any given game using the 40 mm ball, play averages 3.8 trips over the net before a point is won. This makes for a short, boring game on many occasions. Players are quickly defeated and spectators have very little to watch that is exciting or thrilling. The game is over quickly and the match drags on for the best 3 out of 5 games. It is not really an exciting spectator sport as it once was.

Table Tennis is now more of a game as to who has the spiniest rubber or who can blast the ball back over the net to a hopeless opponent. There are no great rallies in a normal game and the thrill of victory and agony of defeat is usually quick and easily forgettable.

 NOW---ENTER THE 44 MM GAME!!!

The 44mm ball is a delight for the players and for the spectators. The size of the ball allows players to see the ball better, judge the speed of the ball, move into proper position, and have more success in returning the ball to the opponent. The average play for a point is almost twice as long as using the 40 mm ball. In addition, the net has been adjusted on the table to a height of 17.25 cm instead of the old 15.25 cm.

Spacers are added to each side of the net to raise it up by a total of 2.0 cm. It is not that much of an increase, but it makes a world of difference in the overall enjoyment of the game by most of the players.

In addition to the size of the ball, and the height of the net, there are a couple of other minor changes that are applied. An official match is the best 2 out of 3 instead of 3 out of 5. Also, if the score in a match reaches 12-12, the next point wins, instead of dragging it out for a long and boring game. And one additional change, which adds to the excitement-Players must use a paddle with short-pips on both sides (same rubber on both sides, one black and one red). No more special spin rubbers that make it impossible to return the serve or shorten the rallies to one or two trips over the net!.

So, the above are the basics of 44mm Table Tennis in the USA and we are excited about this great sport as it grows across our great nation.
