LAKELAND SUNDAY ROUND ROBIN SPECTACULAR-April 13, 2008
Thirteen tough matches were played in the round robin event on Sunday, April 13th in Lakeland.
Alex Ristevski, from Lakeland, Florida was undefeated in match play. Ristevski gained 9 points, raising his League Rating to 1716. Blair Richards, from Winter Haven, Florida, also was undefeated. He raised his USATT League Rating by 6 points to 1663. Stan Werner, from Kissimmee, Florida also gained 4 USATT League rating points, raising his rating to 1404.
Another exciting Lakeland Senior Tournament was held for the month of April in Lakeland, Florida. The competition was really tough and two classes were formed for the tournament, with a Colossal Round Robin format used to determine the winners in both classes.
In the Championship Class, Stuart Lesser, from Clermont, Florida went undefeated to win the Championship Class. Lesser also recently won the Senior Championship in his age bracket at The Villages Senior Games, upsetting several higher rated players. Lesser, a left-handed player, appears confident with his improved playing.
Erwin Watkins, from Winter Haven, Florida finished in 2nd Place in the tough Championship Class. Watkins has recently changed to long-pips on one side of his paddle and continues to improve. Watkins continues to grow in confidence as he becomes more familiar with the actions of his new surface.
In the Elite Class, Daryl Larson, from Clermont, Florida won First Place. This was Larson's first visit to the Lakeland Senior Club and we hope he will return every Thursday. Larson used a variety of tricky serves with unusual spin to win many points during the competition.
Rudy Berzins, from Winter Haven, Florida finished in 2nd Place in the rugged Elite Class. Berzins used his anti-spin rubber to his advantage against several players. Berzins continues to improve his game and gain rating points.
The next Lakeland Senior Tournament will be on May 8, 2008 at the Simpson Park Community Center in Lakeland, Florida. All players, Age 40 and above are welcome to enter.
LAKELAND SUNDAY ROUND ROBIN SPECTACULAR-April 6, 2008
Twelve players competed in a tough 25 match round robin event on Sunday, April 6th in Lakeland.
Erwin Watkins, from Winter Haven, Florida lost only one match during the competition. He is excited about his progress recently. Watkins gained 106 USATT League Points.
John Lillie, from Eagle Lake, Florida, had a successful day. He raised his USATT League Rating by 36 points.
Rudy Berzins, from Winter Haven, Florida also gained USATT League rating points.
We welcome a new player to Lakeland Table Tennis: Cynthia Snyder from Chuluota, Florida. Also, we welcome back Mike Hodges to our club.
A Round Robin Event was held on Thursday, April 3, 2008 in Lakeland at the weekly Lakeland Senior Thursday Round Robin.
Stuart Lesser, from Clermont, Florida went undefeated in the exciting action during the double round robin. Lesser gained +57 Rating Points with Ratings Central, which included an upset of John Curd. Stan Werner also gained rating points with his play on Thursday. Bob Corrado and Art Rupp also had some excellent matches.
The next Lakeland Thursday Senior Table Tennis will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Simpson Park Community Center in Lakeland, Florida. This will be our Monthly Senior Tournament.
A Double Round Robin Event was held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 in Lakeland at the weekly Lakeland Senior Thursday Round Robin.
Robert Gabay, a visiting player from Kingston, Jamacia went undefeated in the exciting action during the double round robin. Gabay gained a new USATT League rating of 1900 and a Rating Central Rating of 1905. Gabay is returning to his native Jamacia, but may be moving to the Lakeland area in the near future. Bob Corrado gained rating points with his play on Thursday. Erwin Watkins, Stan Werner and Art Rupp also had some excellent matches.
The next Lakeland Thursday Senior Table Tennis will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Simpson Park Community Center in Lakeland, Florida.
A Double Round Robin Event was held on Thursday, March 20, 2008 in Lakeland at the weekly Lakeland Senior Thursday Round Robin.
Two players had identical records of 5-1 and decided at the end to not play off a final match to determine the overall champion. Bob Corrado, from Clermont, Florida and Stu Lesser, also from Clermont, Florida fought hard to finish at 5-1. Corrado and Lesser were 1-1 against each other. Corrado won the first match against Lesser by the scores of 8,-9,6,-7, 9, a tough five game match. In there second match against each other, Lesser won with scores of 10,8,11.
In other action, Art Rupp from Bartow, Florida and Sid Favis from Lakeland, Florida also were 1-1 against each other. In the first match Favis defeated Rupp with scores of 7,7,8 and in the second match between the two, Rupp won with scores of 9,9,15.
The next Lakeland Thursday Senior Table Tennis will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Simpson Park Community Center in Lakeland, Florida.

Thirteen players competed in a tough 32 match round robin event on Sunday, March 9th in Lakeland.
Blair Richards, from Winter Haven, Florida was undefeated in 4 matches. He was excited about his progress recently. Blair gained 75 Rating Central Points and raised his rating to 1639.
Rudy Berzins, from Winter Haven, Florida, had a successful day, winning all 4 matches. He raised his Ratings Central Rating by 28 points to 1358.
John Curd, from Ohio gained won six of his seven matches, losing only to Blair Richards.
We welcome three new players to Lakeland Table Tennis: Abhik Bhattacharya, Jose Villareal and Loren Adams.
